New Tarrytown Mayor Thomas D. Butler Jr.

The Village of Tarrytown is pleased to announce that on Monday, September 21, 2020, the Board of Trustees has appointed Thomas D. Butler Jr. as the new Mayor of the Village of Tarrytown, NY, and he is the first African American Mayor in the history of the Village of Tarrytown.  He will be serving to fill the mayoral vacancy created by the resignation of Drew Fixell as Mayor on September 16, 2020.

Mr. Butler has been on the Board of Trustees since he was first elected as a Trustee on April 4, 2005.

He has been living in Tarrytown since 1984 and originally hails from the Bedford-Stuyvesant and Clinton Hill  Brooklyn.  He and his wife Cheryl have four children Kimberly, Blake, Ashley and Brent; three children were raised in Tarrytown and have gone through the Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow public school system.

Mr. Butler graduated & has undergrad and graduate degree from  Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY; attended NYU, Harvard and the University of Manchester,UK; started his own architectural/interior design firm, Building Commissioner, City of Mt. Vernon and currently works for Tishman/AECOM Construction in New York City as a Director. Mr. Butler also fulfilled 35 years of service with the US Army, with 5 years as an enlisted soldier, and 30 years as an officer.  He retired in the rank of Colonel from the US Army Corps of Engineers, US Army Reserves.

Mayor Butler said, “I am honored that my colleagues on the Board of Trustees have placed their trust in me to serve as Mayor of the Village of Tarrytown.  My goal as Mayor is to strive for Unity, Understanding and Respect as we do our work to serve the people of the community.  I look forward to continuing to work with my fellow Board members as we work for the good of the residents and businesses that make Tarrytown our home.”
