Tarrytown Link 04.21.2021 - Route 9 Paving, Mobile Shredder and More!

The Tarrytown Link - "Linking You to Your Village"

NYSDOT to Pave Large Portion of Route 9 (Broadway) Summer of 2021

The Village has heard from NYSDOT with great news… According to the NYSDOT Route 9 (Broadway) will be repaved from Route 119 to Beekman Ave (the clocktower in Sleepy Hollow). We know the press release says College Avenue, but we’ve been told it will go as far as the clock tower (Beekman Ave) in Sleepy Hollow. The work is set to commence during mid-late summer of 2021 and work is slated to take place Sundays – Thursdays during overnight hours of 9pm-7am (hours may change slightly if it lessens impacts and/or facilitates quicker work).

In any case – what does this mean to our Village? Well – there will be impacts. There is no way to sugar coat it. It will be loud, it will be bright, and traffic will be impacted. Just best to rip the band-aid off and tell what’s coming. Good news is this: the work should take approximately six weeks (although we cannot guarantee that exact time frame) AND we get a brand-new road! We will post on Tarrytowngov.com about two weeks prior to the commencement of work to inform everyone of the actual start date.

Lastly, we know there are issues with Route 9 south of 119; especially near the ramp to 287 and across from Montefiore Campus. The Village is in contact with the NYSDOT and will post any updates if they plan on implementing additional repairs outside the scheduled repaving.

mobile shredderMobile Shredder

A fan favorite is BACK May 1, 10am-1pm on Green Street (over the bridge near Train Station) in Tarrytown… the mobile shredder! We know that you just can’t WAIT to get rid of your sensitive documents and get space in your home ready for spring! There are still COVID-19 safety guidelines in place.

Remember, it's best to shred documents you're no longer using, that contain personal identifying information such as name, address, phone number, credit card number or social security number. Such documents should be shredded before they are thrown out for recycling. Some examples are:

  • expired credit card statements and receipts
  • old tax returns or any other personal documents containing you name, address or other identifying information.
  • pre-approved credit card applications
  • licenses

There is much more to know about the program, but rather than throw up a wall of text, please visit the County’s page to learn more about the program here.
