SEAL of the VILLAGE

Introduction of New Village Clerk

Friday May 7th marks Carol Booth’s final day with the Village of Tarrytown as Village Clerk. She is retiring after nearly 20 years on the job. We wish her well and you can send any farewell notes to cbooth@tarrytowngov.com

With that said, we have a new clerk that has already begun undertaking a knowledge transfer from Carol: Krissy Gilligan.

Krissy comes from the Village of Croton-on-Hudson as the former Deputy Clerk/Deputy Registrar (12 years) and Deputy Clerk/ Deputy Registrar/ Parking Manager for the past five years for the Village of Croton. She is a former Board Member of the Westchester Municipal Clerks and Finance Officers Association and has NYS Registered Municipal Clerk designation.

To mark the occasion, Krissy had this to say “Starting a new position in a new location and getting to know all the nuances can be challenging, but everyone from Tarrytown has been extremely welcoming and helpful. I’m looking forward to serving the residents of Tarrytown for many years to come.” Please join us in welcoming Krissy to Tarrytown.

62 Main Street (Former YMCA) Re-Development Kicks Off

As the community may already be aware, the now former YMCA building on Main Street was sold to make way for affordable housing plus a parking garage to be owned and operated by the Village.

With that said, construction and demolition activity has started and activity in the area will be abundant for the foreseeable future. We should note that the historic front side of the building (Main Street frontage) will be maintained. The new section of the building will go where the remaining areas of the building footprint sat. 107-109 total units will be built; however, there is only a net of 59-61 units to the site. You can review some project documents here. Any questions about the project should be directed to the building department at 914-631-3668

Police Officers Out & About

“Park, Walk and Talk” is a new policy for high visibility foot patrol of the Village’s Police Department. An output of the Village’s recent Police Reform process, this initiative’s goal is to maximize community engagement by the police department. Many survey respondents said that they either rarely saw police “walking the beat” or did not know a police officer’s name, so we’re making ourselves more accessible and doing just that.

You’ll begin to see our office’s walking the streets downtown so that the community can get to know them, and so our officers can meet the community. Our officers are being encouraged to make as many citizen contacts as possible – so feel free to go up to one of our friendly officers and say hello or ask them questions about the Village.

Board of Trustees Round-Up

This is going to be a new weekly section where we talk about actions of note recently taken up at Board of Trustees Meetings to keep you “in the know”.

The Station Area Overlay Zone, a zoning change near the train station on the east side of the tracks, was withdrawn from consideration.

The Board of Trustees received a zoning petition to convert the Tarrytown Boat Club site into a 4-story, luxury boutique hotel. This item was referred to the Planning Board for their review and recommendation. This is just the beginning of a lengthy process, and we invite those interested to check Planning Board agendas for the next several months and watch/comment on the application.

A Public Hearing was scheduled for May 17th at 7pm to consider a proposed amendment to prohibit smoking of any kind, including tobacco, cannabis and/or vaping in Village Parks. Just a note: smoking tobacco is already prohibited in Village parks.

Lastly, a statewide Fireman’s Parade was scheduled for August 13, 2022. This is a large parade coinciding with FASNY’s statewide conference to be held in Tarrytown.
