Welcome to Four New Police Officers

At a Special Meeting on Wednesday, July 13, the Board of Trustees had the pleasure of appointing four new recruits to the Tarrytown Police Department. The four police officers were recruited from the local list, which means that all four currently live in Tarrytown. Officer Nadyne Dimmie comes to the Village with several years of work experience with the New York City Police Department, and will be starting her new job tomorrow, July 16. The three other recruits - Officer Steven Amaro, Officer Peter Del Monaco, and Officer James Nardelli - will be entering the 22-week police academy on Monday and will begin work in the Village after they graduate.

Take What You Need, Give What You Can

The Rotary Club of the Tarrytowns installed a Little Free Food Pantry on the grounds of Village Hall as an additional way to address food insecurity in the community. Larah Alami, a Rotary Club member and local optometrist, helped spearhead the project. The Club applied for and won a grant, and was assisted by local businesses, Antonio Cabinetry and Sign Extreme. Anyone can take from the pantry at any time if in need, and all are free to donate. The food pantry will remain stocked and monitored by Rotary Club members and any other volunteers who want to get involved.

Paving on Rt. 9 Begins on Sunday- Be Prepared

The Village of Tarrytown has been notified that the New York State milling and paving of Broadway will start this Sunday night, July 17th, at 9 p.m. The first part of the work will be from the Gracemere area to the Tappan Landing area, and will take approximately 7 to 10 work days. Scheduled for July 24th, subject to change, the second part of the paving will be from Tappan Landing area to Beekman Avenue in Sleepy Hollow, and will also take approximately 7 to 10 work days.

All work will take place at night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. No parking areas will be posted and vehicles parked past posted times will be towed. While the goal is to finish all work by July 31, 2022, the completion of work is dependent on field conditions and weather, so the schedule may change. We will send out another update on Friday, July 22, 2022.

Expect dust and noise during the nighttime working hours. The work is scheduled for night hours to allow the crews to move more quickly through the project, which should reduce disruption. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this important project.

Westchester Power Update

Customers enrolled in the Westchester Power program, which delivers a fixed rate 100% renewable energy electricity supply to Con Ed customers, received notices explaining that all households automatically reverted to the Con Ed energy supply after June 30. The Westchester Power program consolidates energy supply customers in 29 municipalities to secure favorable energy rates at a fixed cost. The most recent two-year contract during which customers were charged 7.4 cents per kilowatt hour expired on June 30.

In this volatile energy market, Westchester Power had been seeking an extension of the contract agreement with Constellation Energy, the current supplier, in order to go out to bid for a longer term contract in what is anticipated to be a more stable market later this year, but after several attempts Westchester Power was not able to secure a new contract at the rate agreed upon rate by participating municipalities. As a result, all Westchester Power customers automatically reverted to the Con Ed energy supply which is charged at a rate that fluctuates daily. You can learn more about Con Ed rates on their website.

Westchester Power is in the process of trying to secure a longer term fixed rate contract, and if it succeeds, residents participating in the program will once again be automatically opted-in to the fixed-rate supplier unless they opt out. Residents who previously opted-out of the Westchester Power program will not see any change in their supply and will not be contacted by Westchester Power, although always have the opportunity to opt into the program at any time.

The Village does not have any recommendations for alternative energy suppliers. The Village expects a new Westchester Power contract to be in place before the end of the year. If Village residents wish to explore alternative energy suppliers, New York State provides a comparative list of suppliers through the Power to Choose website. Be aware that contract terms vary among ESCOs. The State Public Service Commission provides a helpful guide here. Any customer enrolled in an alternative energy supplier aside from Con Ed will not be automatically enrolled in the Westchester Program under the new contract, but will always have the opportunity to opt in at a later time if they so choose.

For more information about Westchester Power, visit their website , call their customer service representative at (914) 242-4725 or call the Village Administrator's office at (914) 631-1785.
