Police Reform & Reinvention Collaborative
On June 12, 2020, Governor Cuomo signed Executive Order 203 which included the Say Their Name Agenda. The Executive Order required review with the goal of reforming aspects of policing in New York State, and applies here to the Village of Tarrytown. The Village held a public forum on June 24, 2020, during which the Village Police chief and Village Administrator made a presentation, after which the public was invited to make comments and give input to the Board. However, this public forum was just the first step in the review process. In September 2020, the Village established the Ad Hoc Police Reform and Reinvention Committee, including a total of approximately 30 people, to meet the goals of the Executive Order. The Village went through a process to inform the Committee about the strategies, policies, procedures and practices utilized by the Tarrytown Police Department. Six meetings were held by the full Committee, through October, November and December. A draft plan (Police Reform & Reinvention Collaborative Plan & Recommendations) was born out of this process.
