FREQUENTLY ASKED PARKING QUESTIONS

  • Do I need a permit to park at the train station?
    • No, you do not need a permit to park at the train station. You can pay to park in the commuter lots at the meters or using Pay By Phone.
  • Which lots can I park in without a permit?
    • You can pay to park in lots B, C, D, F, and G without a permit. Lot E is for resident permit holders only. You can pay to park in lot A without a permit after 2:00 pm. A link to the parking map can be found here
  • How much does train station parking cost?
    • Parking costs $1.75 an hour or $14 for the whole day.
  • Is parking free at any time?
    • Parking is free in the commuter lots from midnight to 6:00am. Parking is free in the downtown lots located on South Washington Street (Lot 4) and on McKeel Avenue (Lot 5) from 6pm to 9am with a 6-hour time limit. Parking is free on Sundays, but you must pay for parking on Saturdays. Parking is free on municipal holidays, a list of which can be found here.
  • Where are the parking lots in Tarrytown?
  • Where are the pay stations in the lots?
    • The pay stations are shown on the parking map as yellow dots with dollar ($) signs.
  • Can I use an app to pay for parking?
    • Yes, you can use the PayByPhone app to pay for parking. Instructions for downloading and using the app are found on the pay stations in the lots and on our website.
  • What is the location code for the train station lots in the app?
    • The location code for lots A, B, C, D, F, and G is 4410.
  • Can I park overnight?
    • Overnight parking is allowed in lot D. Residents are also allowed to park overnight in the McKeel Avenue lot (lot 5) with a vacation permit.
  • How do I pay for overnight parking in lot D?
    • To park in lot D overnight without a permit, pay up until midnight, and then use the PayByPhone app to refill the meter at 6:00 am the next morning. You can also buy an extended permit in person at Village Hall or on our website.
  • Is long-term parking available?
    • Yes, long-term parking is available with a vacation/extended permit. You can apply for one in person at Village Hall or on our website. You must pick up the permit in Village Hall during our hours (8:30 am to 4:30 pm weekdays, excluding holidays.)
  • How can I apply for a permit?
    • Permit applications are available on our website. Applications can also be filled out at the Treasurer's Office in Village Hall.
  • How can I pay for a permit?
    • Checks may be made out to the Village of Tarrytown and mailed to Village Hall at One Depot Plaza or dropped off at the counter to receive the permit the same day. Payments can be made with a credit card over the phone by calling the Treasurer's Department: (914) 631-7873 between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm.
  • Are monthly permits available for purchase?
    • No. Permits are only available on an annual and semi-annual basis.
  • When do commuter parking permits expire?
    • Commuter parking permits go by the Village’s fiscal year, which runs from June to May. Annual commuter permits expire at the end of May. Semi-annual permits expire at the end of November. Commuter parking permit fees are pro-rated depending on which month you purchase them.
  • If I don’t use my parking permit, can I receive a refund?
    • Refunds are not issued for parking permits. If the permit was purchased prior to the dates when it is in effect, the customer can bring back the permit and receive a refund at the Treasurer’s discretion.
  • How do I know if I’m a resident?
    • If you pay property taxes to the Village of Tarrytown or live in a property that does, you count as a Tarrytown resident for parking purposes.
