What is procedure for obtaining a building permit for the erection of a garden shed (or equal)?

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING A BUILDING PERMIT FOR THE ERECTION OF A GARDEN SHED (OR EQUAL)

Submission of a building permit application with appropriate fee in check form payable to the Village of Tarrytown and the following:

  • Location of proposed shed marked to scale on three (3) copies of a current survey/plot plan which has been developed by a licensed land surveyor.
  • Submit specification for construction of said shed in triplicate (3) or equivalent manufacturer's literature.
  • If proposed shed violates allowable setbacks and/or lot coverage, a variance from the Zoning Ordinance will be necessary to be obtained from the Zoning Board of Appeals and the applicant will receive a Denial Letter. 

If said shed is visible from any public street, Architectural Review Board Approval is necessary after any required variances are obtained. The following shall be submitted for Board approval:

  • Architectural Review Board application shall be completed and submitted with appropriate fee in check form payable to the Village of Tarrytown. The Board meets the third Wednesday of each month and applications shall be received at least Eighteen (18) days prior to the meeting.
  • Scaled elevation drawings or equivalent sales literature showing shed appearance shall be submitted in triplicate (3) with previously noted location plans.
