Snow Emergency Declaration – Village of Tarrytown
Due to a change in the snow forecast for between 9” and 12” of snow midnight Monday into the afternoon on Tuesday, the Village of Tarrytown is hereby declaring a Snow Emergency effective 11 p.m. tonight, February 12.
Please note the following changes that will be in effect as the result of this declaration.
1.Tarrytown Village Code Chapter 291 defines snow emergency streets that area subject to parking restrictions, as listed in Chapter 291-89 – Schedule 24 – Snow Zones
The streets that are snow emergency streets/zones are listed in the Village Code Chapter 291-89, and are listed below.
In accordance with the provisions of Article IV, Snow Emergency Parking, the following locations are hereby designated as snow zones, and no person shall park any vehicle or permit any vehicle to remain parked in any of said places during a Village-declared snow emergency or while the Village is engaged in removing snow from such places:

2.Village Hall, the Tarrytown Court, the Recreation Center, the Senior Center, the Fitness Center, the Library and other offices will be closed to the public on Tuesday.
3.Sanitation and Recycling Days will all be delayed by one day this week. Tuesday garbage will be picked up Wednesday. Wednesday recycling will be picked up Thursday. Any Thursday pickups will be picked up on Friday. We will review bulk pickups later this week.
4.No commercial/Downtown garbage pickup will take place on Tuesday.
5.Parking - Tarrytown residents with Downtown and residential parking permits can continue to park on those streets and in those lots, subject to posted regulations.
6.Overnight parking - Any resident with a parking permit who needs to park overnight in a lot may use Lot D.
7.Commuter Lots A, C, F and G are closed to parking as of 11 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2024
Other Rules and Regulations that apply:
- Response and Clean-up – Rules for Residents and Businesses
- Pursuant to Chapter 259-37-A of the Tarrytown Village Code, Sidewalks, driveways and access areas much be cleared of snow and ice within 18 hours of the end of the storm.
- Do not shovel or plow snow and ice into the street. Instead, shovel it to grassy areas, or put on the sidewalks at the curb or alongside driveways so as not to obstruct parking.
- Chapter 259-37-B requires that where snow has melted and formed into ice, the ice must be removed within two hours. Since the temperatures are forecast to be on the low side, as low as 10-degrees, salt will not work as effectively as other ice-melt chemicals like calcium chloride
- Sidewalk café operators should bring in their tables and chairs by Friday night so that the snow cleanup efforts can take place. Tables, chairs and barriers may be put back out after the storm has ended and the snow and ice have been cleared.
The Village of Tarrytown will post further updates on the website as necessary.
The Village of Tarrytown snow emergency will remain in effect until about 8 p.m. on Tuesday unless changed or extended by the Village.
