Sudden Passing of Detective Jose E. Ojito

We are devastated to inform you of the death of Detective Jose E. Ojito of the Tarrytown Police Department. Detective Ojito passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 27, 2022.

Jose began his career in 1990 with the North Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow) Police Department as a Patrolman. He transferred to the Village of Tarrytown Police Department in 1998, where he was promoted to the rank of Detective in 2019. Jose has been an integral and faithful member of the department during his tenure. He wore many hats, aside from working cases, Jose selflessly committed himself to maintaining the departments communications section, as well as fleet management and EMS certifications. 

Born and raised in the Tarrytown’s, Jose spent his entire life giving back to his community. In addition to his service with the Police Department he was also a Volunteer Fireman where he held the position of Chief Engineer 2004-2006 and was currently a Deputy Chief. Jose was also a life member of the Sleepy Hollow Ambulance Corp. Jose will be greatly missed by his family, co-workers and the communities he served to protect.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home Thursday March 31, 2022 from 2p-9p. His funeral Mass will be at Transfiguration Church on Friday, April 1, 2022 at 10:30am, followed by interment in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
