Department of Public Works
The Department of Public Works in the Village of Tarrytown is supervised by the Superintendent of Public Works and consists of 31 employees who are responsible for all highway, water, sewer, sanitation and recycling duties. Highway Division
Responsible for maintaining the roadway infrastructure including roads, curbs, streetlights, trees, snow fighting operations, catch basin repair, leaf pick-up, bulk metal pick-up, sanitary sewer repairs, village property maintenance and landscaping, watering flower baskets in the business district, as well as holiday and summer decorations. They are also on call for any emergency work resulting from inclement weather and natural disasters.
Sanitation Division
Responsible for all residential and commercial trash collection. Check for your scheduled garbage collection day. Bulk trash is picked up on Fridays by appointment only. *
During holidays, trash collection will be picked up on the following day.
Recycling
Every Wednesday, comingled recyclable items are collected. Paper and cardboard must be separate from co-mingled glass and plastic.
Bulk metal is picked up on Wednesdays by appointment only. *
Residents may drop off eWaste (computers, TV’s, etc.) at the DPW Facility at 4 Division Street.
Mattress bags and recycle bins are available at the DPW Facility with payment made at Village Hall Treasures office.
During holidays that fall on Monday or Wednesday, collection will take place on Thursday.
Yard Waste
Yard waste will be collected on Thursday. Leaves and grass clippings must be placed in biodegradable paper bags and placed curbside for collection. Logs and stumps will not be collected
Fall Leaf Collection
Starts daily during the second week in November through the second week of December. Leaves must be bagged or neatly and safely placed at the curb for collection. Please check the route schedule on the DPW webpage for collection of leaves on your street.
Water Division
This division handles all aspects of the Village’s water system from purification and filtration to transmission and distribution including meter readings and repair, water valve installation repair and replacement and water main service repairs.
